THE MEDUSA PROJECT: THE SET-UP by Sophie McKenzie is the first in a best-selling series about 4 teenagers who discover that thanks to a genetic experiment, they now have paranormal powers.

Fourteen years ago, scientist William Fox implanted four babies with the Medusa gene - a gene for psychic abilities. But Fox died and the babies were hidden away for years.

Now they're teenagers - and unaware that their psychic powers are about to kick in

Cocky, charismatic Nico thinks his emerging telekinetic abilities will bring him money, power and the girl of his dreams. He's about to find out just how wrong he is ...

13 SECRETS by Michelle Harrison is the conclusion to an award-winning trilogy about 3 children who become embroiled in the tricksy world of faeries.

Red is now living at Elvesden Manor under her real name, Rowan, and trying to put the past behind her. But staying on thes traight and narrow isn't as easy as she had hoped Hounded by those who would like her to participate once more in the changeling trade, Rowan is also haunted by freams of the Hedgewitch's cottage and the chained up Eldritch, who swore revenge when she left him there.

Her past is about to catch up with her - but can she, Tanya and Fabian prevent it consuming her altogether?

Many, many thanks to both Michelle Harrison and Sophie McKenzie for kindly autopgraphing the books and to Simon & Schuster for arranging the event that made it possible.

I have ONE SIGNED COPY OF EACH BOOK to give away to one lucky winner.

All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning both books is to leave a comment on this LJ telling me which super power you would most like to have

To kick things off, I'd like the super power of smiting just because I think it would be very useful in every day life (think about it - that person who cuts you up on the drive into work? Smite them. The jerk in the customer call centre who's rude and unhelpful? Smite them). However for practical purposes, I'd probably be better off with teleportation.

1. Leave a comment on this LJ telling me what super power you would most like to have.

2. The winner will be chosen at random using a random generator.

3. You don't have to have an LJ account or be a friend of this LJ to enter this contest but if you don't have an LJ account then please tell me how I can contact you if you win (e.g. leave an email address in your comment).

4. You can comment as many times as you want (e.g. to change your mind about your favourite book), but each individual only gets one contest entry.

5. Comments must be posted before 23:59 (GMT) on Sunday 27th February 2011.

6. The winner will be notified by 23:59 on Sunday 6th March by LJ message or email and must respond with their mailing address by Sunday 13th March, or else another winner will be drawn.

7. The giveaway is open to anyone regardless of age or location BUT please note that the prize will be sent by post and I have no responsibility or liability for the vagaries of local mail systems.

8. Prizes are non-transferable and there is no cash alternative.

9. The Judge's (i.e. my) decision is final.

Call me boring, but I'd love to have the ability to teleport, simply to save myself a fortune in travel costs ;) Failing that, I'd like to fly.

I've got to say, flying never appealed to me as a super power. I'd be worried about the cold and the lack of oxygen.

I'd kinda like a corbomite-maneuver power which, whatever the villain did to me, would repeat on him or her with twice the force.

Thus leading to my superhero tag line, "Gwon! Beat me half to death!"
Feb. 21st, 2011 09:56 pm (UTC)
That would be pretty cool, but does it come with super healing and a high pain threshold?
Feb. 20th, 2011 09:25 pm (UTC)
I'll take the power to stop time. Not long ago, I dreamt that I actually had this ability, and it was very useful indeed.
Feb. 21st, 2011 09:57 pm (UTC)
Yes - I can see that would be useful. If only so you could move people around and then start time again

Feb. 20th, 2011 10:26 pm (UTC)
I would love to travel in time. If only to retract some moments when I have made a holy show of myself
Feb. 21st, 2011 09:57 pm (UTC)
I can relate to that.
Feb. 20th, 2011 10:38 pm (UTC)
I would love to be able to slap people who annoy me,without them knowing it was me!
Feb. 21st, 2011 01:31 pm (UTC)
Y'know, I first read your chosen superpower as that of smiling rather than smiting ;))

I agree, teleportation: no more commuting delays, plus very interesting places to go at weekends
Feb. 21st, 2011 09:58 pm (UTC)
Ha! I don't think smiling would be a cool super power. Unless you could grin people to death ...
Feb. 23rd, 2011 01:36 pm (UTC)
:)) I agree, smiting suits you better!
Feb. 27th, 2011 09:49 pm (UTC)
Well teleportation's definitely worked for you because the Random Generator selected you as the winner!

:pointy dance of congratulations:

Could you bash across your address to caroline_hooton AT yahoo DOT com?

Since I sort of hate the actual travel part of traveling, but love visiting new places, I too would like teleportation. My second choice would be shape shifting.

Would you want a general shape shifting ability or something people related? See, I always quite fancied having a prehensile tail, which is why it appeals.
Feb. 21st, 2011 10:18 pm (UTC)
People would be okay, but the fun thing would be animals. You could try out flying, swimming like a dolphin, or change into a cheetah when you need a bit of speed. Being able to change into a dragon would always be a good party trick.

...I feel Is houldn't enter given that I won the last one...but I will anyway! (just for MEDUSA PROJECT, though; no point trying to get the last book of a trilogy)

My superpower of choice is without question transformation. If I could turn into a bird, I'd be able to fly. If I could turn into a bug, I could spy on people/essentially move invisibly. If I could turn into a fish, I could breathe/travel underwater. If I could turn my own body back to the form it was in before I was injured, that'd be similar to healing. I could do so many damned useful things.

Secondary choice is the ability to stop time which I would use almost exclusively for SLEEPING.

Wait a second... are you Momento Mori in the Absolute Write writers' forum? The know-it-all that puts others down constantly? And you haven't even been published (yet)? If not, some horrible person using that screen name has claimed that this blog is theirs. Surely, it can't be you!

Re: Momento?
Given that I link to my RL journal on AW, I think we can take that as a given. But hey, great detective work there, Sherlock.

Now are you entering the competition or are you just here to troll?

Re: Momento?
How sad.
Feb. 25th, 2011 01:17 pm (UTC)
Re: Momento?
I agree. It's sad that instead of writing and trying to make productive use of your time, you've instead decided to follow a link on AW to my LJ and engage in anonymous trolling. It's also sad that having decided to troll, you can't even do it in an original way. And finally it's sad that I'm now going to screen all anonymous comments so that I can make sure nothing from your ISP ( shows up on my LJ.
Feb. 25th, 2011 12:58 pm (UTC)
And pretentious. Please try to be nicer to people.

Re: Momento

You'll understand why I don't take advice from someone too scared to even add a fake internet name to their comments. Really, try harder.

i want the ability to make my curls turn into snakes like medusa. that way, whenever someone annoys me, i can just freak them out and make them run away =]

Mar. 8th, 2011 10:38 am (UTC)
Re: Lindsay

I can see that working quite well. I'd be a bit worried about hair care regimes though - I imagine that the snakes would have to be conditioned regularly and I really wouldn't want to tick them off while they're moulting.
