Spank it old school style

I finished another chapter yesterday and am half way through the next one.

Had some feedback from my agent on the part of the rewritten manuscript that I sent through a few weeks ago and it seems to be getting into good shape, which is always a relief because much as I pretend to be a cool, calm and collected person there's always a voice at the back of my mind screaming "LOVE ME! TELL ME MY WORK IS GOOD!"

I've also finished another crit for Odyssey 2010 and will finish the last ones today. Most of the stories/novels were Hard SF, which isn't normally my bag but hopefully I've been able to say something useful anyway.

City University emailed out the graduation details today for the MA, so I've booked my tickets for that and am not ashamed to say that I'm really rather excited. I'm a massive sucker for sitting around for a couple of hours and then going up on stage to shake a stranger's hand and accept a fake diploma because yes, I am shallow.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to finish booking my academic robes for graduation because I don't know how big my head is. Would you believe that I live in a house without a tape measure of any description? I will therefore have to wait for the parental units to return so that they can tell me where the tape measures are and measure my head.*

The graduation robes apparently have a maroon and gold hood, which I think will be rather snazzy. They also cost 45 quid, which is considerably less snazzy.

I've been plagued by the fax machine today. For some mysterious reason every spammer in the UK has decided to send through details of van hire, parachute jumps and truly bizarrely - bouncy castles for hire. I'd turn the damned thing off but my dad does get legitimate faxes through as well for his work and I don't want to hurt his business.

So instead I'm settling for making a note of the numbers and reporting them to OFCOM for spamming.

All in all it's been a good few days off work - certainly productive. The only downside is that I seem to be coming down with something, which is not good because I have to go into work tomorrow and then of course there's Odyssey over the weekend.

Right - crits await.

* I think it's safe to assume that my head will prove to be a big one. I'm saying it so you don't have to.

Did you know you can register a fax number with the Telephone Preference Service? That should help cut down on the spammers.

Just wanted to say how sad I was not to run into you at Eastercon!

Oh yes - me too (sorry not to see you, I mean).

I think I caught a glimpse of Patrick in the hotel lobby one evening but he was on his way out with some people and I worried that running up to say hello might be a bit inconvenient. Then I worried that it wasn't Patrick. Then by the time I stopped worrying and figured I should just go and say hello, he'd gone.

:is a twit:

I was studying every mum with a pushchair and juggling a small child - probably a little too closely because I definitely got some weird looks back ...

I missed loads of people in the end - mostly because I got hooked into checking out the panels. There were some really good YA ones - the kids on the junior panels were way more articulate than I was at their age. Or indeed, now.

I see you're guesting at BristolCon though with some v. interesting people and I've never been to Bristol before.

Did the three of you have a good time?
