Liquorice out of sorts

It's been a v. bitty week, which might be why I'm feeling so out of sorts at the moment.

On Wednesday I went to City University where Lionel Shriver (author of the award winning bestseller WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN and most recently SO MUCH FOR THAT, which has just been nominated for the US National Book Award) was speaking. I'm currently reading WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN, which is a really good book and she's a very cool speaker. She's very honest, gives her opinion and has a down-to-earth approach to writing, which is fascinating whether you're a reader or a writer. If you get a chance to go to an event where she's speaking, I'd recommend checking it out.

Friday I met up with uC and mR for dinner and it was a lovely evening, although I ate far too much and suffered for it in the wee small hours of Saturday morning. uC and I have also renewed our reading rivalry (well, I say "renewed" but I don't think it ever went away - she just lulled me into a false sense of security because she's darned sneaky ... )

Friday also saw the very good news that the funny and talented gaiesebold has got a book deal for BABYLON STEEL with Solaris Books, with the release date to be in late 2011. Gaie's a member of The T Party and is long overdue this as her writing is fantastic.

:pointy dance of congratulations:

I've got another busy schedule lined up for next week. Wendesday I'm meeting up with my City University alumni for a chat and a catch-up. Thursday I'm hoping to pop into City University to see Claire Allan (author of POPPY SHAKESPEARE) who is speaking to the non-fiction MA class.

Finally, I've posted a new YA ARC give-away competition here and there's plenty of time to enter if you'd like to win some interesting YA SF titles. I've also sent a set of questions to the lovely Jon Mayhew who's agreed to be interviewed for enchantedinkpot (entry to be posted in December). All this and I've managed to fit in laundry and writing. No wonder I'm so tired.

Right, am off to cook myself some dinner and then spend the rest of the evening writing.

Beware uC, her book intake rate can be astounding.

My aim is as always to beat both of you in the reading list stakes...
