The Chapter of Doom has been vanquished

Now I have to work on Son Of Chapter of Doom. Fortunately, I can salvage more from the original draft for this, so it shouldn't be quite as painful an exercise as the Chapter of Doom turned out to be. (She says, keeping her fingers firmly crossed).

Actually, I ended up finishing the Chapter of Doom at the Royal Festival Hall last night, when it appeared that I was the only Million Monkey on duty. I was the loneliest simian in the public spaces ...

:sob:

And because there's nothing like enjoying a bit of progress to make my body decide to ruin things for me, I now seem to be coming down with a cold.

Thanks, body!

In other news, Harriett Godwin, the author of 'The Boy Who Fell Down Exit 43' (shortlisted for the Blue Peter Award) is holding a competition on her website here.

First prize is to have your name appear in her second novel, 'The Extraordinary Legacy of Elvira Phoenix' (due to be published in January 2011) with the winner's name and school to appear in the dedications section. In addition the winner and their school will win £100 of book tokens to be shared between the two. The question you have to answer is this:

If you could wake up in the Underworld as one of my ghosts, which one would it be and why?

Check out the site for terms and conditions.

Sticking with the subject of competitions and giveaways, Kim Harrington is holding a give-away of an ARC for Stephanie Burgis's forthcoming 'A Most Improper Magick', which long-term readers of this LJ will know I've been panting to get my sweaty little hands on for some time. Anyway, the giveaway is here and you get bonus entries for promoting it via other sites.

I didn't go on Monday because I was caught up in the writing here (I had a very productive day yesterday) - sorry to hear you were on your jack jones!

But delighted that Chapter of Doom had its arse handed to it.

Yay!

Not this Monday (most especially because it has just gone) but hopefully next!

And I wasn't there because it was my Dad's birthday. wingsmith wasn't there because he's been imprisoned for tongue-bathing China Mieville's head sent off his manuscript and is taking a couple of weeks off! As for the rest, I have no idea.

Lonely it might have been, but ultimately all struggles to the death are one-on-one. I'm thinking of Chapter of Doom as your end-of-level boss...

Ha! It's one of my end-of-level bosses. I've still got 5 more to go.

Congratulations on the demolition of chapter of doom.
Sorry we left you to the drafty caverns of the RFH, all alone, but then that's where all the best monster-slaying happens.

I dealt with my chapter of doom by the following simple 3 step process:

1) Write it.
2) reread it and decide that it is made and distributed by turd.
3) Ignore this fact and then send it off anyway.

I wouldn't neccesarily recommend it as a way to proceed but hey....

That's certainly one approach ...
